Make a gift!

The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting Norton Cancer Institute is a 150 mile cycling journey, that I’m embarking on to fight cancer. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!

Contribute to this history-making event with a donation. The funds you raise through The Ride to Conquer Cancer will generate the funds necessary to ensure that everyone in our community who needs cancer care will find the help they need at Norton Cancer Institute.

Thank you in advance for your help.

My mom and me

My Personal Story

Ever since my mother, Rita Harris, passed away from cancer on July 10, 2008, I've wanted to do something in her honor to benefit cancer research and Norton Hospital where she spent most of her last days. When the Ride to Victory came to my attention, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to not only raise money in her name, but also to challenge myself to do something that would require me to use the greatest lesson my mother ever taught me, the lesson of hard work. She was always the very best example of that lesson for me.

Why I'm Riding

The first question asked of me when I signed up for this ride, was whether or not I was a cancer survivor, and I wasn’t sure how to answer that question. Then, I answered, "Yes" because the disease affected not only my mother, but all of her friends and family as well. I also know that cancer is so pervasive that I am probably a future cancer survivor and so are you and so are our children and so many friends and family members who aren’t yet diagnosed.

Chances are you all know at least one person very dear to you who has already benefited from cancer research. My mom, and those who loved her, benefited greatly. She was diagnosed the first time 15 years before her death, but because of cancer research, she was cured and lived an incredibly full 15 years, giving her children and her grandchildren memories that they would not have otherwise had. My children would not have known their mamaw - a woman who came to be one of the most important people in their lives.

Thank you for your gift not only because it honors my mother, but because it is also a gift to yourself and your own loved ones.
